Look at all of these students who were "caught" being kind

I recently asked parents and teachers to "catch" students who were being kind to others. We did this as part of World Kindness Day back on November 13th. I FINALLY was able to get the display up. Students names were written on fish if either their parent or their teacher caught them doing a kind act. We then put those fish on the windows in the cafeteria using blue tablecloths as the background.

TEAMWORK

I recently did a class lesson on teamwork following our team building day. Students were split into small groups consisting of 2-3 students from each grade level. They then completed 3 different activities that required team work. We didn't have much time to debrief the activity so I decided to create a class lesson for December on the topic for all grade levels. One of the activities durng my lesson was to give small groups one of the letters in teamwork. They also were given a word that started with that letter using the acrostic poem below:

Together
Everyone
Accomplishes
More
With
Organization
Respect
Kindness

I used "work ethic" in my class lesson so that these students had something to discuss and write about. Each group had to determine why this was an important part of teamwork. For example, for the letter "T", students had to discuss why working together is an important part of being on a team. Each classroom teacher kept their acrostic poem to hang in their room if they pleased.

"If you can be anything, be kind" coloring contest!

We recently had a coloring contest using our school them, "If you can be anything, be kind." I found this coloring sheet online with our theme on it.....AMAZING!!

I posted it below if anyone would like it.

These were the 3 winners that we chose (1 for each grade level)

Make a Difference

Students were recently asked to "Make a difference" by doing something to help others in their community or at school. These are stars that I put up with all of the students names who participated. This went along great with my Starfish lesson :) Search my blog for my lesson using the starfish story to see more display or lesson ideas.

Reach out with your kind hearted hand

The great kindness challenge theme song is one of my favorites. I recently played this song during a 4th grade lesson after we had discussed the challenge and read the book, "Each kindness." The students wrote down one idea on how they can spread kindness to others and then I created this hallway display. It looks a little more like a tree than an arm and a hand but that's ok :)

Start a chain reaction of kindness

I recently did lessons on kindness in all grade levels. The project for 5th grade was to create a kindness chain of kind acts each student was going to complete. They each came up with 4 ideas and then we attached their individual chains to make a class chain. I then linked all 6 classes together and put the chain going up one of our stair cases. I had the poster made from an image I found with a quote from Rachel Joy Scott.
